Contrary to popular belief, the exam creators are not evil or malicious. (I will admit, however, that while creating the exam, we experienced a giddy joy when one of us came up with a particularly tricky, er, clever question. High-fives all around!)
Even though the odds that you’ll ever actually use octal in the real world are astronomically tiny, they were included in the exam just for fun.
Chances are, you don’t keep your checkbook in hex. (If you do, there’s a Geeks Anonymous (GA) group ready to help.)
The F suffix gives you a way to tell the compiler, “Hey, I know
what I’m doing and I’ll take the risk, thank you very much.”
